(Editor’s Note: Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda and Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha had previously written to Bibi Sawinder Kaur, wife of Shaheed Bhai Major Singh Nagoke, asking how the well-being was and if the police is harassing them. Bibi Sawinder Kaur wrote a reply in which she stated that her second son, Gurpreet Singh had polio and only in Pune can Polio be treated. Bibi Sawinder Kaur also requested some photos from which they can remember Bhai Jinda and Bhai Sukha.)

God is One, realised by the grace of the True Guru

To our most respected sister Sawinder Kaur Khalsa, beloved children and entire Sikh Sangat, we bid the Guru’s greetings.

The Khalsa belongs to Waheguru

Victory belongs to Waheguru

We beseech the True Guru to bless you all with high-spiritedness and to gift victory for the Panth in every sphere.

Dear sister, I received your letter and photos today. Whilst I was pleased to read the letter in the knowledge that you remembered your brother, I was also saddened that you are all going through such strife. Do not worry, for both happiness and sorrow are the price of human existence. Life is a struggle itself. Guru Sahib’s shelter is the biggest support we have. By tuning ourselves in to the Divine Name, we receive relief from physical suffering and gain spiritual education. Faith in, “The Name is the panacea, the remedy to cure all ills” brings fruition to life. As per Hukam, “O Nanak, meditating on the Naam, the name of the Lord, your affairs shall be resolved”, help is given in the worldly and spiritual life. So meditate, meditate, meditate, be happy.

As is told to us, “Blissful is the one who has based their life on Divinity” and so we should read, listen and contemplate over Gurbani every single day.

Having received your letter, today we called the senior doctor of the prison and told him the whole account. He told us that there is a private Sancheti Hospital in Pune where Polio patients are treated very well. They perform operations, and if not more, they are able to recover patients to walk with the aid of a stick. They also place artificial legs on some patients allowing them to walk again. The doctors can tell what is best by checking for themselves. By the way, we have heard that there is also a government hospital in Pune where they udnertake this treatment too. If someone comes to meet with us here, we will send them there to ascertain more details. We came to know that the private hospital is quite expensive and can ask for expenses of thirty to forty thousand rupees. It may cost a little less in the government hospital. There will be no problem for food and drink while staying in Pune as the Ganesh Bhet Pune, Gurdwara Sahib will take care of that. A room will be found, there will be no problem.

You have written about the meeting, sister. My heart longs to see my Gursikh sister and beloved brothers, but then I think that we do not want to add to your problems. It is best that you do not come to visit because as you know the situation is tense these days. You asked for photos, we are sending them. We, both brothers, are sending four photos.

I am writing this letter at night. Brother Sukhdev Singh is sitting in front of me in his room. He sends Guru’s greetings to all with great respect. It was very sad that the people of Bahadurpur did not give photos to my handsome nephews. So what if some photos were given away, we could have supplied more. They had a lot of photos, but instead hurt the feelings of the children by not sharing them. If you had told us earlier, we would have sent an avalanche of photographs! Now we have sent you the negatives, which is why we are only sending a few. We pray to God that our nephew gets well soon. Place the photos on his heart and give them to him with our love. Please give our love to our niece too, from her father’s younger brothers.

Read Gurbani as much as possible. Our mind becomes patient by chanting the name of God. And then we do not fall foul of the sorrows of the world. Fortunate are those people who have taken the path of the Guru as their life’s purpose, who have become one with the Divine Name and who are knotted with the Divine Love.

All the pleasures of the world can exist for any man, but if he forgets the Almighty then he is but a worm. There is no spiritual satisfaction without Divine Name.

If a person lives in a broken home, if their clothes are torn, has nothing to speak of, has no physical relationships, but is soaked in the Divine Name, then consider them as the earth itself.

Living without the Divine Name is a worthless existence, if we are devoid of it only slander will come our way.

I will end this letter now. Apologies for any mistakes. Finally, please greet the children with sweet hugs and kisses from their father’s brothers, and to all the Guru’s greetings.
