Shaheed Bhai Sukhdev Singh alias Bhai Sukha Singh was born in 1969 in the house of Sardar Dalip Singh and from the blessed womb of Mata Gurmej Kaur in village Valtoha, Tehsil Patti, present-day Sri Tarn Taran district. Bhai Sahib was the youngest of all siblings, 3 elder brothers and 2 elder sisters. At first, Bhai Sahib was recruited in the Home Guard Police and then seeing the atrocities on the families of Jhujaru Singhs, Bhai Sahib decided to leave this job and punish the evil Indian security forces. Bhai Sahib was joined by his colleagues, Bhai Pargat Singh Pagga Tank (Valtoha), Bhai Jaswinder Singh Kala Toriyan (Valtoha), Bhai Lakhbir Singh Checker (Valtoha) and Bhai Roop Singh

Valtoha. The Jhujaru Singhs looted the police weapons (SRL rifles) and shared them with Jhujaru Singhs of other organisations. 

 

On 19th January 1991, Bhai Sukhdev Singh alias Bhai Sukha, Bhai Lakhbir Singh Checker, Bhai Jaswinder Singh Kala Toriyan along with his 5/6 Jhujaru companions were resting in village Nihal Ke, near Harike Ferozepur district. The police, CRPF and BSF surrounded the village and a fierce battle took place from both sides. It is said that the encounter lasted for 36 hours. After running out of ammunition, all of the Jhujaru Singhs attained martyrdom.
