How can those who have the seed to fight against oppression and tyranny in their hearts sit idly by? No matter how much sacrifice they may have to make, they cannot sit in peace and quiet. No matter how much oppression the Indian security forces may inflict on them, they forces could not crush the seed of fighting against injustice within Bhai Sukhchain Singh Duggal.

 

Bhai Sukhchain Singh Duggal was born in 1965, from the blessed womb of Mata Labh Kaur in village Duggal Kalan, district Patiala. While Bhai Sukhchain Singh was studying a Bachelor’s Degree at Akaal Degree College Mastuana Sahib, his mind focused on fighting against the challenges put forward by the Indian Government, and his blood would boil hearing about the injustices being done by the Government which resulted in him joining the Sikh Student Federation unit at his college. Bhai Sahib knew that the Sikh nation was enslaved and in order to break these chains of slavery, sacrifices would need to be made, so he left his studies where they were. Operation Blue Star and the Delhi Sikh Genocide had shaken him even more.

 

On 11th June 1987, after the shaheedi (Martyrdom) of Bhai Jarnail Singh Halwara, the tyrant police regime government had arrested Bhai Sahib on allegedly providing refuge to Bhai Halwara. An investigation started and Bhai Sahib was put into Patiala Jail. He was then put under NSA (National Security Act) and sent to Nabha Jail and after to Sangrur Jail. Bhai Sahib came out on bail, but the Police wouldn’t leave them alone and picked them up again, and on top of that the Police would continuously harass Bhai Sahib’s family. After seeing all this, Bhai Sahib decided to join the Jhujaru Singhs and leave home.

 

In May 1988, Bhai Sahib was arrested as he was injured in a battle against the Indian security forces in Haryana. The police put a case on him and sent him to Ambala Jail, and after 2 years he was again released. While in jail, Bhai Sahib met Bhai Baljit Singh Manesh and Bhai Nishan Singh Mardan Khera. All 3 Singhs, after being released, promised to fight for the Sikh Freedom Movement and they delivered that promise. Bhai Sahib attained Shaheedi (Martyrdom) on 24th August 1992 in Patiala. His Bhog happened on 2nd September at Village Duggal.
