Shaheed Bhai Saraj Singh Thathi Jaimal Singh

During the struggle to remove the chains of slavery from the necks of the Sikhs and achieve freedom for the Sikh nation, which was initiated by the great revolutionary general of the 20th century, Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale, thousands of Singhs and Singhnia have contributed and continued the Sikh struggle by drinking the nectar of martyrdom. Among these Shaheed Singhs, Bhai Saraj Singh, a warrior of village Thathi Jaimal Singh, who participated/served in the Sikh struggle very secretly and never thought of publishing his name in newspapers. Bhai Saraj Singh always kept his name secret. Most of his fellow Jhujaru Singhs did not know who this Bhai Sahib was and where he came from. While engaged in the Sikh struggle, Bhai Saraj Singh always recited Gurbani and meditated on Waheguru. Bhai Saraj Singh kept himself out of responsibilities, meetings and statements published in newspapers. Bhai Sahib was of the opinion that by doing this, the families of the Jhujaru Singhs would be targeted by the Indian security forces.

 

Bhai Saraj Singh was born in the house of Sardar Vahela Singh and from the blessed womb of Mata Jagir Kaur in the year 1970 in village Thathi Jaimal Singh, near Patti, district Amritsar. Sardar Vahela Singh had 8 children, eldest being Bibi Surinder Kaur, Bibi Amarjit Kaur, Shaheed Bhai Saraj Singh, Bibi Raj Kaur, Bibi Charanjit Kaur, Bhai Resham Singh and youngest were twins, Bhai Raj Singh and Bhai Baj Singh. Bhai Saraj Singh studied from the Government Primary School of Village Thathi Jaimal Singh till the fifth standard.

 

In 1988, the Sikh struggle was in full swing. The Jhujaru Singhs had complete dominance over the Indian security forces in the border area. Jhujaru Singhs were fiercely fighting against the Punjab Police, CRPF, BSF, anti-Sikh elements and the police informants and despite attaining martyrdom, the Jhujaru Singhs were taking the Sikh struggle forward.

 

At this time, Bhai Saraj Singh got in touch with Lieutenant General Bhai Nishan Singh Makhu of the Khalistan Liberation Force and started serving in the Sikh struggle with under his command. Bhai Sahib served secretly for about two and a half to three years. Bhai Saraj Singh attained martyrdom on 1st December 1990. The Sri Akhand Paath of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj was performed for the spiritual peace of Shaheed Bhai Saraj Singh, on 10th December 1990 at his house in Thathi Jaimal Singh. Punjab Police, CRPF and the BSF surrounded the village of Thathi Jaimal Singh and conducted a house-to-house search. The Indian security forces suspected that Bhai Nishan Singh Makhu and his companions would arrive to pay their respects to Shaheed Bhai Saraj Singh. But the Jhujaru Singhs could not reach the Bhog due to the heavy presence of the Indian security forces. In a press note sent by the Khalistan Liberation Force to Ajit and Aaj Di Awaaz newspaper, Bhai Saraj Singh was paid tribute and praised for his contribution to the Sikh struggle.
