Shaheed Bhai Resham Singh Chhina

Bhindranwala Tigers Force of Khalistan

 

The immortal warrior, Shaheed Bhai Resham Singh Chhina, who fought and died in the Khalistan freedom struggle, was born in 1966 to the house of Sardar Malook Singh and from the blessed womb of Mata Kashmir Kaur in village Harsa Chhina, Patti Varnali, Tehsil Ajnala, District Sri Amritsar Sahib. The details of the five siblings are as follows: Bhai Angrej Singh, Bibi Narinder Kaur, Bhai Avtar Singh Jota (Shaheed), Bhai Resham Singh Chhina (Shaheed) and Mehal Singh. After studying till the eighth standard, Bhai Sahib started farming with his father. During the days of election, in a fight in the village, someone killed his father Malook Singh and uncle, Sardar Ajit Singh due to old enmity. After this, the entire responsibility of the house fell on his four brothers. Bhai Resham Singh had taken Amrit from the Panj Pyare during his childhood. Bhai Sahib was deeply attached to Gurbani, he was always heard reciting prayers or meditating on the name of Waheguru. 

 

When the Indian forces attacked Sri Darbar Sahib in June 1984 to crush the Sikh spirit, after this massacre, Bhai Resham Singh Chhina’s elder brother, Bhai Avtar Singh Jota started serving in the armed struggle for the independence of Khalistan under the command of Bhai Satnam Singh Satta Chhina of the Bhindranwala Tigers Force of Khalistan and had left home to go underground. After this, a period of police torture began on his family the whole family. The police brutally tortured Bhai Resham Singh and his mother, Mata Kashmir Kaur, elder brother Bhai Angrej Singh and uncle, Sardar Saroop Singh. 

 

One day, the police arrested Bhai Avtar Singh Jota, tortured him, sent him to Amritsar jail, and then after three months, he was taken out of jail and martyred in a fake police encounter. When Bhai Resham Singh Chhina read the news that the butcher Punjab police officers hungry for medals and awards had martyred his elder brother, Bhai Avtar Singh Jota, Bhai Resham Singh Chhina immediately took up arms and joined the ongoing struggle for the creation of Khalistan. Bhai Resham Singh, under the leadership of Bhai Satnam Singh Satta Chhina, killed many butchered police officers and avenged the martyrdom of Bhai Avtar Singh Jota. 

 

Bhai Resham Singh was a warrior with a lion’s heart in his words and deeds, his decisions were always unwavering, he would strike like lightning at his enemies. The local gangsters, comrades and police forces would tremble at the mention of his name. Bhai Sahib was a threat to the enemies. Bhai Resham Singh Chhina often asked Bhai Satnam Singh China share the wise teachings of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale with him. Bhai Resham Singh used to say, “I wish I had also had the blessings of meeting Sant Bhindranwale, and had joined his group at a young age and fought with the Indian forces to protect the Sri Darbar Sahib.” Then Bhai Satnam Singh Chhina said, “Don’t worry my brother, Sant Ji gave his life protecting the religion in 1984, and we are the heirs of that general. Sant Ji had said that if Sri Darbar Sahib is attacked, the foundation of Khalistan will be laid, and now we have to teach the forces of the cruel Indian government such a lesson that they should think a hundred times before starting to fight with the Singhs in the future. We have a very heavy responsibility on our shoulders. We have to liberate our country Khalistan or die trying!”

 

The Jhujaru group of Bhai Satnam Singh Chhina and Bhai Resham Singh Chhina performed great actions which shook the entire Indian security force. A comrade, Hardev Babbu from village Harsa Chhina, was a puppet of the government and had mercilessly martyred Bhai Kuldeep Singh Tolenangal, by shooting him in the chest with an assault rifle. Hardev Babbu also had many Jhujaru Singhs handed over to the police and killed. He had also raped the girl of a Brahmin family of the Chhina village in broad daylight. This comrade felt untouchable with the backing of the local police force. Under the command of Bhai Satnam Singh Satta Chhina, Bhai Resham Singh Chhina, through his maternal uncle’s son, Bhai Ranjit Singh alias Guddi, established contact with Bibi Jasmeet Kaur, the educated daughter of DSP Dalbir Randhawa, and they were entrusted with the responsibility of somehow entrapping the comrade and handing him over to Bhai Satnam Singh Chhina. With the help of Bibi Jasmeet Kaur, the Jhujaru group captured Comrade Babbu and after killing him, body was thrown into a well. The Jhujaru Singhs had cut off his head and hung it in front of the school in village Harsa Chhina. A piece of paper was shoved in the mouth of the decapitated head, on which it was written, “Bhindranwala Tiger Force takes responsibility for this murder and other evildoers are also admonished to reform, if they do not reform, the fate of the other sinners will also be the same.”

 

To acquire more weapons, Bhai Resham Singh Chhina crossed the border into Pakistan twice with Bhai Satnam Singh Chhina and also visited the historical Gurdwaras where the feet of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj had touched. Bhai Resham Singh Chhina also had the good fortune to be in the company of warlike generals such as, Bhai Sukhwinder Singh Sangha, Bhai Rashpal Singh Chhandran, Bhai Jagdish Singh Disha, Bhai Sukhdev Singh Babbar, Bhai Gurjant Singh Budhsinghwala, Bhai Paramjit Singh Panjwar, Bhai Punjab Singh Chhapa, Bhai Wassan Singh Zaffarwal and others. For some time Bhai Resham Singh Chhina, along with Bhai Satnam Singh Satta Chhina,

travelled in the Trai area of Uttar Pardesh, but then, as per the responsibility assigned by the organisation, he returned to Punjab and continued to struggle for independence. The police were searching for Bhai Sahib in every corner of Punjab and Uttar Pardesh. Bhai Sahib’s relatives were locked up in police stations, and even the local villagers were not spared.

 

Finally, on 26th April 1992, Bhai Resham Singh Chhina and another Jhujaru companion were surrounded by the Punjab police and CRPF in a village called Tolenangal. Both Jhujaru Singhs fought bravely against the enemy forces for four hours and in this vast encirclement, Bhai Resham Singh Chhina and the fellow Jhujaru brother became the target of enemy bullets and attained martyrdom fighting till their last breath. The Punjab police did not hand over the martyred body of Bhai Resham Singh Chhina to the family, and after the postmortem, they cremated the Jhujaru Singhs in the crematorium of Durgiana Temple of Amritsar. After much pressure, the ashes of Bhai Sahib were given to the family, which Mata Kashmir Kaur and the Sangat went to Sri Kiratpur Sahib to flow them.

 

The Bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib in the name of Shaheed Bhai Resham Singh Chhina was held on 5th May 1992 at Gurdwara Singh Shaheeda. On this occasion, the head of Damdami Taksal, Baba Thakur Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale, Baba Charan Singh Ji Bir Sahib Wale and Baba Lakha Singh Ji Guru Ke Bag Wale arrived to pay their respects. There was a huge gathering of thousands of devotees at this event, everyone was paying homage to this warrior of Khalistan, slogans of Khalistan Zindabad were echoing all around. About seven months before his martyrdom, Bhai Resham Singh Chhina had an Anand Karaj, and when he was martyred, his wife was about to give birth to their child.
