Bhai Rajinder Singh alias Raj Singh was born in the year 1970 to the blessed womb of mother, Mata Hameer Kaur and father, Sardar Nachhattar Singh in the village of Badal Kalan, near Bhawanigarh, district Sangrur. Bhai Rajinder Singh was the youngest of five children, with one brother and three sisters – Shaheed Bhai Kehm Singh Babbar, Bibi Harjit Kaur, Bibi Paramjit Kaur, Bibi Rajinder Kaur and Bhai Rajinder Singh alias Raj Singh. Bhai Rajinder Singh had also studied up to tenth grade. Being the youngest of the family, he was treated as the favourite, loveable one, adored by his entire family.

 

After his studies, he enrolled with the Indian Army, but due to differences with his officers he decided to leave and came back home. Here he worked alongside his family to farm their land. He settled down into family life and had his Anand Karaj (marriage) with Bibi Amarjit Kaur (sister of Bibi Santosh Kaur wife of Bhai Khem Singh Babbar). They were blessed with a daughter – Bibi Kamaldeep Kaur.

 

Bhai Sahib was a follower of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale and always wanted to do something for the Sikh nation that will free it from the chains of Indian slavery. Bhai Rajinder Singh was very much aware of the political conditions in Punjab and fully supported the fight for a free homeland Khalistan, free from oppression and tyranny. He decided to also join the Jhujaru Singhs in playing a role to contribute to the movement. He came into contact with Bhai Amar Singh and Bhai Pyara Singh who were both from village Aloarakh and from the militia group, Khalistan Commando Force. Bhai Rajinder Singh Ji was very active and would get arrested many times by the police. His family would always make efforts to bribe the police and request they set him free. He was released a number of times on bail.

 

In the month of August 1992, Bhai Rajinder Singh had stopped at an undisclosed resting place in Patiala City, but unfortunately, the owners of where he was staying tipped the police in exchange for the reward on his head and told the police of his whereabouts. Bhai Rajinder Singh was picked up unarmed by the Sangrur Islamabad (Haryana) police and handed over to the Sangrur police branch. He was kept at the Sangrur police station arbitrarily for up to twenty-two days. He was tortured daily and was belittled to such a state. He was taken to a highway bridge, and killed in a fake encounter, attaining Shaheedi (martyrdom). His remains were never given back to his family.
