Khalistani Jhujaru, Shaheed Bhai Nishan Singh Bhilowal was born in 1974, in the house of father, Sardar Jagir Singh and from the blessed womb of Mata Bhagwan Kaur in village Bhilowal, district Sri Amritsar. Bhai Sahib had one brother and 5 sisters; he was the youngest of all siblings. Due to poverty, Bhai Sahib only studied upto eighth grade. Bhai Sahib was very handsome and was a top player in the game of Kabaddi. Bhai Sahib always said to his sister, Bibi Harvinder Kaur that, “I don’t want to die from a sickness, or an accident or from old age, I want to be a martyr for the Sikh nation.” Even in the Gurdwara Sahib of his village, Bhai Sahib himself did the Ardas of his martyrdom.

 

Bhai Sahib soon joined the Jhujaru Singhs of Khalistan Liberation Force, under the command of Bhai Tasbir Singh Jhander, Bhai Palwinder Singh Sona and Bhai Kulwinder Singh Bhola and secretly started doing Jhujaru actions for his homeland, Khalistan. Bhai Sahib also was very close to his cousin, Bhai Gurmukh Singh Bagga of Dasmesh Regiment and did Jhujaru actions with him too. One day, when Bhai Sahib came home armed with assault rifles, Bibi Harvinder Kaur tried to stop him, but Bhai Sahib said, “Sister! The police are bothering me again and again, and if these oppressors catch and kill me, then you will have to suffer later, so let me do my duty in the struggle and teach a lesson to these villains who attacked Sri Darbar Sahib and demolished our Sri Akaal Takht Sahib.” After this, Bhai Sahib left home permanently. 

 

When the 1984tribute.com team went to Bhai Sahib’s house, Bibi Harvinder Kaur shared that Makhan Kang, a comrade from the area was a government informer. On the morning of 20th September 1992, at 8 o’clock, Bhai Nishan Singh was hiding in the bushes near village Dhulka to attack him. When the comrade’s car passed near the road, Bhai Sahib shot and killed the comrade. At the same time, the men sitting in the car with the comrade fired at Bhai Nishan Singh, due to which he attained martyrdom on the spot. In those days, the comrade’s son Manjinder Kang and his nephew Gurnam Singh used to say on Doordarshan TV and in the news that, “We killed the terrorist Nishan Singh.” But later, when the Jhujaru Singhs announced to punish both of them, they turned away from their statements. Bibi Harvinder Kaur told us that after the death of the comrade, the people of the surrounding villages performed Sri Akhand Path Sahib and offered prayers as a thanksgiving that the wicked Makhan Kang had been killed, the dirt has been removed from this land and the people sang the praises of Bhai Nishan Singh’s action, saluting his martyrdom.

 

The next day, when the family came to know about this tragedy, they tried hard to get the body of Shaheed Bhai Nishan Singh Bhilowal, but the police did not allow them to have the last rites of Bhai Nishan Singh. This information about Shaheed Bhai Nishan Singh Bhilowal was given to us by his sister, Bibi Harvinder Kaur and brother, Bhai Darshan Singh.
