Shaheed Bhai Narinder Singh Litta

Bhai Narinder Singh Litta was born in 1963, in the house of Sardar Ganga Singh and from the blessed womb of Mata Mahinder Kaur in the village of Jalalpura, near Majitha, district Amritsar. Bhai Sahib had 3 brothers and 2 sisters, he was the fourth eldest of his siblings. Sardar Ganga Singh’s main source of income was agriculture. Bhai Sahib studied upto 8th class at the local village school and then studied upto 10th class in 1982 to 1983 at a school in Majitha. After his studies, Bhai Sahib joined his father in farming.

 

Then in June 1984, the Indian army attacked Sri Harimandir Sahib with tanks and cannons. Bhai Sahib started taking interest in the freedom movement that started after, and he took Amrit from the Panj Pyare during the same time. Bhai Sahib started his Gurbani Santhaya and started doing Rauls as Granthi Singh. Another Jhujaru Singh from Jalalpura, who was a class fellow of Bhai Sahib, Bhai Kabal Singh Fauji went underground and joined the Jhujaru Singhs in 1987. Shortly after, Bhai Sahib also joined his school friend, and started doing actions in secret under the command of Babbar Khalsa’s Bhai Mahinder Singh Piond. Bhai Sahib took part in many armed actions alongside the Jhujaru Singhs of Babbar Khalsa.

 

By February 1991, Bhai Sahib was known to have assassinated many anti-Sikh elements, which included corrupt police officers and brutal CRPF soldiers. The Indian security forces came to know Bhai Sahib’s involvement in the armed struggle through their planted informants and the black cats. By this time, Bhai Sahib had left home and joined the Jhujaru Singhs fully. In April 1991, Bhai Kabal Singh attained martyrdom alongside Bhai Daler Singh Dalera in Amritsar. After the martyrdom of Bhai Kabal Singh, the command of Bhai Sahib’s Jhujaru group came under Bhai Daljit Singh of village Gadli, district Amritsar.

 

In October 1991, after completing a Jhujaru action, Bhai Sahib and a fellow Jhujaru Singh went to village Jhanjoti, near Raja Sansi, district Amritsar to lay low, staying at Bhai Sahib aunt. The fellow Jhujaru Singh (Prabhjit Singh, village Mehmdabad, Majitha) with Bhai Sahib was a SPO previously in the Punjab police. It was with his help that the Police was able to arrest Bhai Sahib at a checkpoint near the bridge of village Bagga Kalan.

 

Bhai Sahib was tortured by the Punjab police at the Mal Mandi Interrogation Centre of Amritsar. When the police failed to get any information from Bhai Sahib, they hung him until his martyrdom. The body of Shaheed Bhai Narinder Singh Litta was given to the family and cremated under heavy police presence at the Sitala Mandir in Amritsar. The date of Bhai Sahib’s martyrdom is 10th October 1991.

“Khadku Killed – Last night militants attacked Majitha police team near the fish farm of Raja Sansi. In this attack, one militant of Babbar Khalsa, Narinder Singh was killed. According to the police, it is said that Narinder Singh alias Litta was arrested the night before along with another militant, Prabhjit Singh, who previously was a SPO in the Punjab police and had joined the militants. The police attained 1x scooter, 1x Mauser along with 30 bullets from these militants. Police said that they were taking Narinder Singh near fish farm of Raja Sansi for weapon recovery when they were attacked by militants. The police team also returned fire. In this firing, Narinder Singh was killed. According to the police, Narinder Singh Litta was wanted for involvement in more than 50 murders. Amongst these murders, many Indian security personnel were killed.”
