Khalistan Commando Force

 

Bhai Mohinder Singh was born in the year 1948, to the blessed womb of mother Mata Resham Kaur and father Sardar Karnail Singh, in the village of Rasulpur, near Khemkaran, Tarn Taran. He was one of three children, being the middle with an elder sister and a younger brother. The family lived a traditional village life and earned their livelihood from farming their family-owned land. Bhai Mohinder Singh did not get the opportunity to study or attend any schooling. From a young age he joined his family in working the fields and agriculture. In 1975, he had his Anand Karaj (marriage) with Bibi Kulwinder Kaur. They were blessed with three children, two sons and a daughter – Gurtegh Singh, Ranjit Singh and Rajwinder Kaur.

 

It was the year 1980, political and religious upheaval in Punjab was on the rise. In recent years, many cases of religious blasphemy against Sikhism had been instigated by the Indian State. A great leader was born, Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale, who spearheaded a religious and social campaign known as the Dharam Yudh Morcha in 1982. This campaign was a voice that the Sikh nation and people of Punjab will not stand the continued attempts to discriminate and attack on Sikhi. Bhai Mohinder Singh understood the plight of Punjab and the current political, social and religious situation. He would often attend Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar to listen to the speeches of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale. Soon after, both Bhai Mohinder Singh and his wife were blessed with Amrit (baptised) at Damdami Taksal, Mehta Chowk.

 

In June 1984, the unforgivable happened and the Indian State attacked Sri Harmandir Sahib. This rocked the entire Sikh nation, no Sikh was ever the same again. Following this attack, Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale had already ordered many to leave the complex to remain alive and continue the fight and deal with the perpetrators after this battle. The armed struggle was an inevitable result of this attack. The law of the land had discriminated against the Sikhs massively. And so now the Government was no longer for it’s people and it’s people were no longer of the land nor government.

 

In the region of Mand, many Jhujaru Singhs had joined the armed struggle. Bhai Mohinder Singh was also very supportive of the movement. He too wanted to join. Whenever, the Jhujaru Singhs travelled through his village he would look after them wholeheartedly, by serving meals and giving them a hide-out place to stay.

 

Eventually the police got to know of his support for the Jhujaru Singhs and he was regularly picked up by the police and taken away where he would be tortured for days before releasing him. Bhai Mohinder Singh was very loyal to the cause and never disclosed any information. Having been arrested so often, Bhai Mohinder made up his mind and decided to fully dedicate himself to the armed struggle and join the Jhujaru Singhs. He went on to join the Jhujaru Singhs of Khalistan Commando Force, under the command of Bhai Jagtar Singh Daula. Bhai Mohinder Singh’s contributions were great. He was a very understanding and tactful individual. He worked well with all the Jhujaru Singhs and were positively influenced by him.

 

On 25th January 1990, were the coldest days of the year, Bhai Mohinder Singh and three other Jhujaru Singhs – Bhai Kala (son of Bhai Bira Singh, village Kirthowal), Bhai Bohra (village Khalas, Khemkaran) and Bhai Pargat Singh (village Jhugian, Peer Baksh) were together. All were sat on top of a farmhouse in the middle of two villages Valtoha and Varnala, district Patti. An informant came to know of their whereabouts and tipped off the police. A sudden siege of police and CRPF forces surrounded the area. A firing battle ensued and the Jhujaru Singhs used all the firearms and ammunition they had in possession at the time. They fought till their last breath and all attained Shaheedi (martyrdom).

 

Their bodies were never returned to the family, but cremated at an undisclosed location in Patti. In memory of their Shaheedi, the families organised a religious gathering at Baba Gurdas, Bahadur Nagar and honoured the brave lions.
