Khalistan Commando Force

 

Bhai Mohinder Singh was born on 4th August 1966, to the blessed womb of mother, Mata Dalip Kaur and father, Sardar Bhag Singh, in the village of Abbuwal, near Halwara, district Ludhiana. He was one of eight children – Bhai Piara Singh Fauji, Bhai Mukhtiar Singh, Bhai Mohinder Singh himself, Bhai Ninder Singh, Bhai Jalua Singh, Bibi Mukhtiar Kaur, Bibi Gurdev Kaur and Bibi Binder Kaur. Bhai Mohinder Singh studied up to 4th grade, after which he stopped his schooling and began working with his father to cultivate and farm their family-owned land.

 

Bhai Mohinder Singh had a very mellow and gentle personality. He was always very respectful and had a deep love for his father. Suddenly, their mother passed away unexpectedly and this left the family in pieces. Even through this grief-stricken sadness, the family accepted the will of God. Bhai Mohinder Singh was not a very religious person, but this was due to not having received much education or knowledge about his faith and Sikhi. Him and his family would attend the Gurdwaras and Mandirs but only as mere formality. However, on one such day, Bhai Mohinder Singh was blessed with the company of a Gursikh from whom he learnt a lot about Sikhi and this encouraged Bhai Sahib to take Amrit from the Panj Pyare. Bhai Mohinder Singh was an excellent kabaddi player and won many prizes.

 

One day, Bhai Mohinder Singh was going about his business and was visiting a nearby village of Kalakh, the village of a great warrior, Bhai Jagroop Singh Kalakh. However, based on suspicion alone, the local police stopped Bhai Mohinder Singh and arrested him on no charges. He was taken to the police station and brutally tortured and beaten. He was kept there for three days. He was released and went home in utter confusion and anger. Then a couple of days later the police arrived at his home and raided the property. Luckily, Bhai Mohinder Singh was out of town else the police would have arrested and tortured him again.

 

Frustrated at the turn of events, Bhai Mohinder Singh decided to contact the local Jhujaru Singhs in his village Bhai Baghel Singh and requested to join their militia group, Khalistan Commando Force which was under the command of Bhai Wassan Singh Zaffarwal. Bhai Mohinder Singh served with great dedication and participated in many well-known actions to serve justice to perpetrators and keep the movement alive. One such action was the destruction of 5 fuel tankers at the Airforce Airport in Halwara. Several thousand litres of government oil/fuel were burned out.

 

One day, on 5th June 1991, Bhai Mohinder Singh along with Bhai Gurmeet Singh and Bhai Baghel Singh were surrounded by the police, whilst they were travelling on a scooter to the village of Maherna Kalan (Mandi Ahmedgarh, district Sangrur). Bhai Mohinder Singh and Bhai Gurmeet Singh were arrested by the police. Bhai Baghel Singh cleverly advised the police that the papers and license for the scooter were in their house and pointed to a random house nearby. With this he made his way to the house and started to plan on how to free his Jhujaru brothers. Bhai Baghel Singh tried to get to a position where he could fire at the police and shot two bullets. But the siege of police cordon was too strong and he knew he would not survive this. Bhai Baghel Singh then shot himself knowing his end had come and attained Shaheedi (martyrdom).

 

Bhai Mohinder Singh and Bhai Gurmeet Singh were caught and taken to the police station; here they were brutally tortured. Hot metal rods were marked across their bodies, their legs and arms were broken, but not once did they utter an ounce of any information relating to their Khalistan Commando Force and it’s Jhujaru Singhs/Singhnia. In the end, on 6th June 1991, since they were not revealing any information, the police took both Bhai Mohinder Singh and Bhai Gurmeet Singh onto the bridge near the village of Kanganwal (Sangrur) and shot them both dead, where they attained Shaheedi (martyrdom).
