Bhai Manjit Singh was born from the blessed womb of mother, Mata Kalesh Kaur and father, Shaheed Bhai Bawa Singh in their home village of Ghaseetpura, Tarn Taran. Bhai Sahib was the eldest of five siblings: three sisters, Bibi Harjit Kaur, Bibi Surjit Kaur, and Bibi Paramjeet Kaur and one brother, Bhai Bhupinder Singh. Sardar Bawa Singh was a Kavishri and had attained martyrdom in a most inhumane and unexpected manner, he was shot and killed in a fake encounter by a police informant (Black Cat). Bhai Manjit Singh studied up to the twelfth grade in the village of Kang.

 

Only a week remained until Bhai Manjit Singh’s Anand Karaj when he attained martyrdom. Bhai Sahib served in secret with the Jhujaru Singhs of Khalistan Liberation Force. Bibi Harjit Kaur’s husband was Bhai Anar Singh Para alias Chotta Brahma, also served alongside him in the Khalistan Liberation Force. Bhai Manjit Singh was repeatedly harassed and detained by the Punjab police and would later be released due to pressure from village leaders and supporters. His family was regularly harassed and tormented by the police also, this including unexpected raids and interrogations.

 

On the day of his martyrdom (exact date unknown), Bhai Manjit Singh was dragged from his home and taken by the police force of Sultanpur Lodhi. Bhai Sahib was brought to a bridge near Goindwal Sahib and killed in a fake encounter alongside another Jhujaru Singh, Bhai Jaswant Singh Manochahal. Both Jhujaru Singhs attained martyrdom. The police did not allow the families to claim the bodies. The Shaheed Singhs were cremated at an undisclosed location. Shaheed Giani Mohar Singh, who attained martyrdom in June 1984 on the holy ground of Sri Harimandir Sahib was Bhai Manjit Singh’s maternal uncle (Mama Ji).
