Shaheed Bhai Kabal Singh Manochahal

Bhai Kabal Singh was born in the year 1967 to the blessed womb of mother, Mata Mohinder Kaur and father, Sardar Bahaal Singh, in the village of Manochahal. He was one of eight children and was the fourth eldest – Shaheed Bhai Gurbhej Singh, Bhai Maan Singh, Bhai Karaj Singh, Bhai Kabul Singh, Bhai Hira Singh, Bibi Kashmir Kaur, Bibi Veer Kaur and Bibi Balvir Kaur. The family lived a very simple and basic life, earning a living by farming and cultivating the small amount land they had. Bhai Kabul Singh studied up to eighth grade at his local village school. He was a very devout Gursikh who was blessed with Amrit (to become a baptised Gursikh) at the age of 15 years.

 

After completing his eighth-grade, he went to the village of Sursingh to serve at a religious institution of Baba Daya Singh, Baba Bidhi Chand Nihang Dal. Here he was trained and versed in the complete reading of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj (The scriptures of the living Guru). Bhai Kabal Singh also got the opportunity in learning to drive. Quite often he would be the designated driver for Baba Daya Singh. He was even blessed to read the morning and evening prayers at Baba Bidhi Chand Nihang Dal. Following his time of religious learnings, he then went on to be the Granthi Singh (priest) at Gurdwara Shaheedan Sahib in the village of Chautala, Tarn Taran. Here, he came into contact with Jhujaru Singhs. Bhai Kabal Singh would regularly serve the Jhujaru Singhs langar.

 

One day, the police surrounded the gurdwara and immediately went into a siege of firing. Bhai Kabul Singh had no way out but to also participate and escape with the Jhujaru Singhs. He was handed an AK47 rifle by the Jhujaru Singhs and he fought like the rest of the brave lions. They all escaped.  From this day on, he never looked back and continued to serve alongside the Jhujaru Singhs and dedicated himself to the freedom movement of a free homeland Khalistan. He also went on to serve with the group, Babbar Khalsa under the command of Bhai Jaswinder Singh Judge Johal.

 

On 8th May 1992, Bhai Kabal Singh and his close fellow Jhujaru Singh Bhai Joginder Singh were both sat at a hideout house in the village of Mughal Chak, near Bhikhiwind. There were situated there by instructions of higher command of Jhujaru Singhs. However, they were not fully armed. They only had one pistol each. To their betrayal, an informant had found out and tipped off the Punjab police. Soon enough, the police had completely surrounded the area. A firing battle ensued, eventually the two brave lions were left with no bullets to fire and breathed their last at the hands of the police. They had attained Shaheedi (martyrdom) having dedicated their life to the Khalistan movement. Two years later his eldest brother Bhai Gurbhej Singh was also killed by the police who inflicted the most brutal torture.
