Shaheed Bhai Jaswinder Singh Kala was born in 1967, in the house of Sardar Shiv Ram and from the womb of Mata Kuldeep Kaur in the village of Bhauwal, district Ropar. Bhai Jaswinder Singh was the 2nd eldest of 4 brothers, Shaheed Bhai Dalbir Singh Bittu, Shaheed Bhai Jaswinder Singh Kala, Bhai Harchand Singh, Bhai Jagtar Singh and 1 sister, Bibi Satwant Kaur. Bhai Jaswinder Singh passed his 10th class from the Khalsa School of Ropar.

 

At a very young age, Bhai Jaswinder Singh was attached to the Sikh faith and had also given his voluntary arrest during the Dharam Yudh Morcha which was being spearheaded by Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale and the Shiromani Akali Dal. It was during Bhai Jaswinder Singh teenage, that the police arrested him and framed him in false cases, he was jailed for one year at Nabha Jail. Even after being released on bail, the Punjab police continued to harass Bhai Jaswinder Singh and his family members. Bhai Jaswinder Singh was once again arrest and tortured at the CIA Staff headquarters in Ropar, it was after this Bhai Jaswinder Singh left home and joined the Jhujaru Singhs in fighting for a safe place, in which Sikhi and Sikhs can flourish.

 

On 29th October 1991, Bhai Jaswinder Singh was helping a vulnerable girl resettle at her in-laws house. But someone had reported Bhai Jaswinder Singh to the local police team, which then led to the house being surrounded. As innocent people were in the way, Bhai Jaswinder Singh avoided a battle with the police. Bhai Jaswinder Singh swallowed a capsule of cyanide and gave his life for the Sikh freedom movement. When the police saw the dead body of Shaheed Bhai Jaswinder Singh Kala, they fired bullets at it to make it look like that a fierce battle had ensued.
