Shaheed Bhai Jagjeet Singh Tittu

Shaheed Bhai Jagjit Singh Tittu was born in 1978 to Sardar Ram Singh and Mata Charanjit Kaur in the village of Takhanwadh, now in Moga district. Among five siblings, Bhai Titti was the second eldest, he studied up to 10th grade. There was extreme poverty in the family, and his father used to make a living by working as a daily wage labourer. After completing his studies, Bhai Tittu started working with Bhai Beant Singh of Dhudike at his electrical shop. Bhai Beant Singh had a good contact with the Jhujaru Singhs, because of which the police targeted Bhai Jagjit Singh Tittu on suspicion.

It is worth mentioning that the family of Bhai Jagjit Singh used to serve the Jhujaru Singhs who were fighting in the armed struggle of Khalistan’s war of Independence by feeding them Langar. 

In June 1993, under the orders of Thanedar Nanak Choudhary, the Moga police raided Bhai Tittu’s house, but he was not at the house at that time. The police harassed his sister, Bibi Sukhwinder Kaur and family immensely. The SHO said, “Either bring Jagjit Singh forward soon, or I will pick up the whole family and take them to the police station!” About 15 days later, the police arrested Bhai Tittu and subjected him to immense torture at the CIA staff in Moga. Then the police took Bhai Jagjit Singh near the canal of village Takhanwadh and martyred him in a false police encounter.
