Bhai Hardeep Singh was born in 1968, from the blessed womb of Mata Pritam Kaur and in the house of Sardar Gurpal Singh in Dharamkot Randhawa village, near Dera Baba Nanak. Bhai Sahib was the 5th eldest child, eldest being Bibi Amarjit Kaur, Bhai Tehal Singh, Bibi Harjinder Kaur, Bhai Amar Singh, Bhai Hardeep Singh, Bibi Harbhajan Kaur and youngest, Bhai Harjit Singh. Sardar Gurpal Singh was a farmer and equally looked after his family. Bhai Sahib studied upto 10th class at a school in the village. After, Bhai Sahib went to Damdami Taksal headquarters at Chownk Mehta to attain religious studies. Here Bhai Sahib was blessed with Amrit and started doing Santhaya of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj.

 

Staying at the Damdami Taksal headquarters, Bhai Sahib became well knowledgeable in Gurbani and also started wearing Bana (Sikh attire). In January 1991, Bhai Sahib got a government job in Amritsar. From childhood, Bhai Sahib had great love and attachment to Baba Deep Singh Ji Shaheed, and when going to Amritsar, he would daily go to Sri Shaheeda Sahib Gurdwara. During these days the Sikh freedom movement was at its peak. The Jhujaru Singhs would be seen coming to Bhai Sahib’s village to stay and have food. Bhai Sahib’s family would cater Langar for the Jhujaru Singhs. Bhai Mathra Singh also visited Bhai Sahib’s house, but this information was given to the local police station and the family now started getting harassed. The police mainly targeted Bhai Sahib, due to his attachment with Sikhi. Bhai Sahib was arrested and taken to Kapurthala for interrogation, this was done to obtain some information to capture Bhai Mathra Singh, but Bhai Sahib did not give any information. Eventually Bhai Sahib was released after 2 months of blind torture at the hands of Indian security forces.

 

Bhai Sahib returned home and started working in Amritsar again, but the police did not stop harassing him. Due to this harassment of his family members and himself, Bhai Sahib expressed his feelings to join the Sikh freedom movement to Bhai Mathra Singh and from here on Bhai Sahib became a Jhujaru Singh of the Khalistan Commando Force. Bhai Sahib never returned to family life at home, he had now found a new family of brothers fighting for the existence of future generations of Punjab. Bhai Sahib showed great bravery and courage in his Jhujaru life.

 

On 6th January 1993, Bhai Sahib along with Bhai Bikramjit Singh Bikka (village Rama Talwandi), Bhai Balwinder Singh Sandhu (village Ghaniye Bangar), Bhai Jagir Singh Fauji (village Kala Afghana) and Bhai Satnam Singh Satta (village Awaan) were resting at house in Shesharewal village, near Fatehgarh. An informant had given this information to the police, who along with CRPF surrounded the village that evening. Upon realizing that they had been surrounded, all 6 Jhujaru Singhs grabbed onto their assault rifles and started a fierce battle with Indian security forces. It is said by the locals that the battle continued for almost 24 hrs, until all the Jhujaru Singh were declared martyred on the evening of 7th January 1993. All the martyred Jhujaru Singhs were cremated at the cremation grounds of Batala by the police.
