Shaheed Bhai Hakam Singh Dhadogal

Akaal Federation 

 

Shaheed Bhai Hakam Singh was born to Sardar Harnek Singh and Mata Gurdial Kaur in village Dhadogal, District Sangrur on 26th March 1961. He received his early education from the government school in Dhadogal, passed 10+2 from Higher Secondary School of Amargarh, and graduated from Government College Malerkotla. Bhai Sahib was a very good hockey player. At the same time, due to Akali Dal not providing a platform for the Sikh struggle, the Naxalite movement gained momentum in Punjab. Like others, Bhai Hakam Singh was also influenced by this movement, but from a Sikh understanding, he realized the uniqueness of the Sikh nation and his mind turned towards Sikhi. 

 

On the occasion of Vaisakhi on 13th April 1978, 13 Singhs were martyred by the Narakhdharis under government patronage. This incident had a profound impact on his mind and he became an Amritdhari Singh and became a disciple of the Sikh Gurus. Bhai Sahib started the work of punishing various hypocrites and government stooges. On 24th April 1984, he assassinated a Narakhdhari businessman who was running a shop in Amargarh. Then Bhai Sahib joined Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale and started punishing the anti-Sikh elements under the banner of Akaal Federation. 

 

In June 1984, the government of India attacked Sri Darbar Sahib. At this time, Bhai Sahib fought against the invading Indian army from the complex and then on the night of 5-6 June, following the orders of Akaal Federation’s high command, he broke the siege of the army through a secret route and escaped. After the attack, the government turned every inch of the land of Punjab into a military cantonment to suppress the voice of the people. Even then, Bhai Hakam Singh continued the struggle against the killers of the Sikhs.

 

During an action, Bhai Sahib was caught due to someone’s tip-off or police intelligence. Inspector Raj Krishan Bedi tortured him a lot but failed to gain the names and addresses of Bhai Sahib’s Jhujaru companions. Bhai Sahib remained steadfast in his faith. Finally, a false police encounter was created at Sidhwan village. Six hot rods were passed through Bhai Sahib’s chest and abdomen; flesh was plucked from under his nails. He was shot in the armpit, right in the middle, which clearly shows that it could not have been hit during the encounter. Shaheed Bhai Hakam Singh’s martyrdom created anger among the people of the area.
