Bhai Gurjap Singh Gabbar was born in the house of Sardar Gurmukh Singh and from the blessed womb of Mata Harbhajan Kaur in the village Pahuwind, near Bhikhiwind. Bhai Sahib was the eldest of 5 children, he had one younger sister and 3 younger brothers. The main source of income for the family was farming/agriculture. Bhai Sahib had studied upto 8th class at a school in Bhikhiwind. Being the eldest, Bhai Sahib had taken many responsibilities at home to make sure his younger siblings had everything. From a young age, the whole family of Bhai Sahib was attached to Sikhi.

 

In June 1984, when the Indian army attacked Sri Darbar Sahib and many other surrounding Gurdwara, Jhujaru Singh came into existence in Punjab. They were taking revenge for the killing of innocent Sikhs as well as paving a way for Khalistan, a Sikh homeland. Limitless Sikh youth of Majha area took part in the Sikh struggle, Bhai Gurjap Singh Gabbar was amongst these Sikh youths who entered the battlefield to restore the turban of the Sikh nation. Bhai Sahib provided food and shelter for the Jhujaru Singhs of Khalistan Commando Force. Bhai Sahib had great love for Bhai Pargat Singh Samra. All these duties were done by Bhai Sahib while still staying at home.

 

On 17th March 1991, Bhai Sahib was working in his farm when all of a sudden Punjab police arrested him and took him to the outskirts of Bhikhiwind. Bhai Sahib was also amongst other Sikh youths, one of then being Bhai Gurmej Singh Geju (son of Sardar Amrik Singh, village Sanpur, Bhikhiwind). The Sikh young men we all killed in a fake encounter. This showed how the Punjab police were killing the young generation of Punjab.
