Shaheed Bhai Darshan Singh Valtoha

 

Bhai Darshan Singh Gogi was born on 12th October 1966, in the house of Sardar Sohan Singh and from the blessed womb of Mata Bachan Kaur in village Valtoha (Patti Matte Ki-Theh Sarhali), Tehsil Patti, district Tarn Taran. Here is the detail of ten children of Sardar Sohan Singh: Bhai Balwinder Singh, Bhai Darshan Singh (Shaheed), Bhai Lakhbir Singh (Shaheed), Bhai Sukhwant Singh, Bhai Charanjit Singh, Bibi Mahinder Kaur, Bibi Shinder Kaur, Bibi Veer Kaur, Bibi Darshan Kaur and Bibi Paramjit Kaur. Bhai Sahib used to do farming with his father, he did not study school. Inspired by the ideology of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale, Bhai Sahib took Amrit from the Panj Pyare. In June 1984, after the attack on Sri Darbar Sahib, Bhai Sahib joined the armed struggle for the freedom of Khalistan and started punishing the anti-Sikh elements. Bhai Sahib’s younger brother, Bhai Lakhbir Singh Checker also attained martyrdom fighting for the establishment of Khalistan. 

 

On 6th August 1991, Bhai Darshan Singh Gogi was staying in a house in Longowal village of Sangrur district. An informant gave this information to the local police station. The police surrounded Bhai Sahib and there was a fierce encounter with the police forces. Bhai Sahib attained martyrdom while fighting in this encounter. The family came to know about the incident the next day through a newspaper report. Bhai Sahib’s mother immediately reached Sangrur but the police did not hand over his martyred body or any belongings to the family. According to another separate information, Bhai Sahib was martyred on 4th September 1991 in village Bhikhi of Sangrur district along with Bhai Surjit Singh alias Seetal Singh Jhakhar, Lieutenant General of Bhindranwala Tiger Force of Khalistan, Bhai Jaswinder Singh Bhalla and Bhai Pargat Singh Talwandi were also martyred in this encounter. 

 

According to the family, Bhai Darshan Singh Gogi was martyred on 6th August 1991 in village Longowal, but in an FIR, his martyrdom was recorded on 4th September 1991 in village Bhikhi.
