Bhai Bikramjit Singh Bikkar was born in 1971, in the house of Sardar Tehal Singh and from the blessed womb of Mata Charan Kaur, in village Basarke Gill, district Amritsar. Bhai Sahib was the youngest of 3 brothers, eldest being Bhai Pashora Singh and Bhai Lahora Singh. Sardar Tehal Singh was a farmer and provided for his family by farming. Bhai Sahib did not go to school and from his childhood, he helped his father in farming. Bhai Sahib was a fit and tall man, and had been bought up with unconditional love from his parents. Bhai Sahib was very brave and at the young age of 16/27 years, he started working as guard at Sri Harimandir Sahib.

 

During the year of 1990, the Basarke Gill area saw great progress by the Jhujaru Singhs. A courageous Jhujaru Singh of this area, Bhai Gajan Singh Lalli was very active in the movement and the locals would read news articles of his bravery in the newspapers. Bhai Sahib was keen on joining the Jhujaru Singhs of this group. Seeing the brave personality of Bhai Sahib, Bhai Gajan Singh enrolled him into his Jhujaru group. Bhai Sahib had only been with this Jhujaru group a short time when Bhai Gajan Singh Lalli along with Bhai Kashmir Singh Ghulli attained martyrdom in a fierce encounter with the Indian security forces on 26th October 1991. Bhai Sahib was also involved in the battle but managed to escape. After the martyrdom of Bhai Gajan Singh, the high command of Khalistan Liberation Force made Bhai Sahib the Area Commander, this was due to his bravery and capability.

 

Bhai Sahib started carrying out Jhujaru actions and regaining the strength in the area, all this was being done under the command of Bhai Anar Singh Para. Bhai Sahib was very strict in his principles and did not misuse the funds of the Jhujaru group. Bhai Sahib also protected the Hindu families in the area. Some of fellow Jhujaru Singhs that Bhai Sahib did actions with are as follows, Bhai Sukhdev Singh Valtoha, Bhai Karaj Singh Lakhna, Bhai Nishan Singh Makhu, Bhai Ranjit Singh Rana (village Bhurj, Patti), Bhai Surjit Singh Frandipur, Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha (village Khuali, Lopoke), Bhai Major Singh Johal and many more Jhujaru Singhs.

 

Most of Bhai Sahib’s Jhujaru group had attained martyrdom or took the opportunity to self-surrender themselves to the Indian security forces. Family and friends also tried to get Bhai Sahib to surrender during this period, but Bhai Sahib’s answer was always, “I will never bow to these tyrants, I am only going to fulfil the mission of Khalistan, and if I attain martyrdom doing this, then so be it! By surrendering, I will be betraying my martyred Jhujaru brothers.”

 

On 8th April 1993, Bhai Sahib was resting at a house in village Boparai Baj Singh, near Lopoke. At this time, Bhai Sahib was alone and only had one pistol. The Punjab police got this information and surrounded the house, in which Bhai Sahib was resting. Bhai Sahib heard footsteps moving around and grabbed his pistol, when he checked outside, he saw police officers coming towards the house and he opened fire, injuring some police officers. Bhai Sahib was limited for ammunition, and after battling for a short time, he tried to escape, but the heavy police presence did not allow this. When Bhai Sahib’s bullets were about to finish, he decided to take his own life instead of being captured alive by the enemy. With the last bullet, Bhai Sahib took his own life and attained martyrdom.

 

Shaheed Bhai Bikranjit Singh Bikkar’s body was cremated by the police at the Sitala Mandir in Amritsar and his ashes were given to the Panchayat of his village.
