Bhai Bhupinder Singh was born in 1961, in the house of Sardar Bahadur Singh and from the blessed womb of Mata Dalip Kaur in village Basarke Gill, district Amritsar. Bhai Sahib had 4 brothers and 4 sisters, he was the third eldest of his siblings. The family’s main income source was from agriculture. Bhai Sahib had studied upto 4th class at the local village school and then started helping his father in farming. Bhai Sahib was married to Bibi Harjit Kaur from village Basarke Bhaini, and they had one daughter, Rajbir Kaur. During this period, Bhai Sahib was linked to bad company and to get him away from this company, Mata Dalip Kaur decided to her son to Sri Harimandir Sahib to do selfless service. While at Sri Darbar Sahib, Bhai Sahib met the Jhujaru Singhs who were staying at the complex. And due to this, Bhai Sahib took Amrit from Panj Pyare and gave up the bad company of friends he had.

 

Bhai Sahib had met Bhai Karaj Singh Thande and Bhai Resham Singh Thande of Bhindranwala Tigers Force of Khalistan. It was from here Bhai Sahib started doing Jhujaru actions under the command of Bhai Karaj Singh Thande. In the beginning of May 1988, the Indian army stormed Sri Darbar Sahib again, this was called operation was code named Black Thunder 2. It was in this attack Bhai Karaj Singh Thande attained martyrdom, after this Bhai Sahib’s Jhujaru group came under the command of Bhai Resham Singh Thande.

 

Bhai Sahib was doing Jhujaru actions in secret but the police arrested him a few times under suspicion and tortured him too, after which he would get released on bail. Bhai Sahib had been sent to jail twice, once for 4 months and then again for 14 months. Even after this, Bhai Sahib continued to do Jhujaru actions in secret. Bhai Sahib remained close to Jhujaru Singhs such as Bhai Kashmir Singh Thathgarh, Bhai Gurnam Singh Nurpur and Bhai Mangal Singh Dand.

 

On 8th October 1991, Bhai Sahib and Bhai Gurnam Singh Nurpur were staying at a house in Heir village, near Gharinda. The Punjab police surrounded the house after and informant had tipped them off about the 2 Jhujaru Singhs. Soon as the Singhs realised they had been surrounded, an encounter started. In this battle, CRPF soldiers and police officers were killed. Both, Bhai Bhupinder Singh Makka and Bhai Gurnam Singh Nurpur attained martyrdom in this encounter, fighting like lions.
