Shaheed Bhai Bawa Singh Ghaseetpura

 

Bhai Bawa Singh was born from the blessed womb of Mata Parmeshar Kaur and in the house of Sardar Mehla Ram, in the village of Ghaseetpura, located in the district of Tarn Taran. He was one of six children, with three elder brothers and two younger sisters: Ramchand, Rattanchand, Mehar Chand, Bawa Singh (Shaheed), Ram Pyari and Ram Ratni.

 

Bhai Bawa Singh was a devoted Gursikh who joined the Jhujaru Singhs during the armed struggle against the oppressive Indian state, which was determined to wipe out an entire generation of young Sikh men in Punjab. His mother, Mata Parmeshar Kaur, shared with us that Bhai Bawa Singh was deeply committed to the fight for a free homeland, Khalistan. His son, Bhai Manjit Singh Ghaseetpura and son-in-law, Bhai Anar Singh Para (husband of Bhai Bawa Singh’s daughter, Bibi Harjit Kaur) were also part of the Khalistan Liberation Force and the armed struggle and both attained martyrdom.

 

Bhai Manjit Singh was killed in a fake police encounter and attained Shaheedi. Approximately twenty-seven days later on 11th December 1992, the police targeted Bhai Bawa Singh and shot him while he was riding his motorcycle (Shaheedi date unknown). Many others from their extended family also fought shoulder to shoulder in the armed struggle and attained martyrdom. These brave souls are among the countless unsung lions who contributed to the bright flame of Shaheedi and left a silent yet powerful mark in the fight for Khalistan.
