Shaheed Bhai Balvir Singh Khassan

Khalistan Commando Force 

 

Bhai Balvir Singh Khassan, a warrior who attained martyrdom by fighting for Sikh nation, was born in the year 1968 in the house of Sardar Teja Singh and from the blessed womb of Mata Surjit Kaur in village Khassan, near Bholath, District Kapurthala. Bhai Sahib has five sisters, Bibi Amarjit Kaur, Bibi Gurdeep Kaur, Bibi Narinder Kaur, Bibi Kulwinder Kaur, Bibi Charanjit Kaur and one brother Bhai Jagdish Singh. Bhai Sahib studied up to 8th standard, and then ITI. After doing that, he started working at Jagjit Industries (Hamira) as a welder. 

 

When the Dharam Yudh Morcha started, Bhai Balvir Singh started participating in this movement at an early age. The police harassed Bhai Sahib a lot, after which he went to Damdami Taksal Headquarters at Chownk Mehta and after taking Amrit, he started acquiring Gurmat education. He was a high spirited Gursikh with a drive to do something for the Sikh nation. Bhai Sahib would often go to Sri Amritsar Sahib and listen to the speeches of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale. When the cruel forces of India decided to attack Sri Darbar Sahib, Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale found out and sent many Jhujaru Singhs home. This was done so that the struggle for freedom of Khalistan could continue for a long time and on a bigger scale. Bhai Balvir Singh also came home under the orders of Sant Ji and then the unthinkable happened. The Indian army attached Sri Darbar Sahib and demolished Sri Akaal Takht Sahib with tanks and guns. Due to this betrayal of the Indian government, Bhai Balvir Singh’s heart was shaken, and he started taking part militant actions under the command of Chief General, Bhai Manbir Singh Chaheru alias General Hari Singh of Khalistan Commando Force and Baba Gurbachan Singh Manochahal, the head of Bhindranwala Tigers Force of Khalistan, to teach a lesson to the government of India. The echoes of Khalistan Zindabad were heard all around Punjab, the Jhujaru Singhs showed such bravery and determination that the whole of India was shook. The war started by the enemy was carried by the Jhujaru Singhs to the house of the enemy, Delhi. 

 

Bhai Sahib had the good fortune of being in the company of General Labh Singh, Bhai Tarsem Singh Sidhwan, Bhai Avtar Singh Bisrampur and other senior Jhujaru leaders. Bhai Balvir Singh built the memorial gate of Bhai Baldhir Singh, who was martyred in the Nakodar massacre in 1986, in village Ramgarh (Kapurthala) by standing before the police and challenging the close associates of Home Minister Buta Singh, who Bhai Sahib punished. The government had deployed CRPF soldiers all over Punjab to catch Bhai Sahib.  A bounty of many Lakh Rupees was placed on his head and he was declared a most wanted militant, his pictures was put up in the police stations of every district. The brutal police officers tortured Bhai Sahib’s family mercilessly to get to him, the entire village was surrounded regularly by the Indian security forces. Bhai Sahib continued to serve the Sikh nation with full dedication and bravery, along with being a warrior, he was also a Saint, always reciting Gurbani. Despite his young age, Bhai Sahib carried out great Jhujaru actions and successfully broke the large sieges of the Hindustani forces to escape safely. Police force themselves hearing the name of Bhai Sahib, trembled in their shoes. The doors of every house in the area were always open for Bhai Sahib to have food and shelter. He did not push any innocent person and did not spare the enemies of the Sikh nation under any circumstances. 

 

Baba Thakur Singh, the great saint of Damdami Taksal, used to help the Singhs in every way. With the blessings of Baba Ji, the Jhujaru Singhs kept the government of India on its toe. Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale’s words were ingrained in Bhai Sahib’s heart, and he was determined to achieve the goal of Khalistan. Bhai Balvir Singh also made every effort to make the freedom struggle of Khalistan a people’s movement and also did a lot of social reform works. Bhai Sahib also kept in touch with other Jhujaru organisations, and along with them he continued punishing the evildoers. 

 

Finally, due to the treachery of one of his companions, Bhai Balvir Singh Khassan was arrested by the police from a hideout. Police took Bhai Sahib to CIA Staff of Kapurthala. Butcher police officer, SSP Swaran Ghotna tortured Bhai Sahib by passing red hot rods through his thighs and pulled all the fingernails, toenails out. Just like in the eighteenth century, how the Mughal government had mercilessly tortured Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, in the same way, Bhai Balvir Singh was subjected to inhuman torture by the Indian government. Then on 13th July 1988, SSP Swaran Ghotna and Thanedar Mangal Butcher martyred Bhai Balvir Singh in a false police encounter near the dry canal of village Baler, Khanpur and Bheta (Kapurthala). Before the sunrise of 14th July, a top Jhujaru Singh of Khalistan had sacrificed his life for the Sikh nation. 

 

After the encounter, the police dragged the martyred body of Bhai Balvir Singh to village Khassan, and the butchers threw Bhai Sahib’s half naked body in middle of village and warned the villagers that no one should join the Khalistan movement or they will meet the same fate as Shaheed Bhai Balvir Singh Khassan. But the colour of Bhai Sahib’s martyrdom had settled on many youths of the area who jumped onto the battlefield and fought for Khalistan. The martyred body of Shaheed Bhai Balvir Singh Khassan was cremated in the village Khassan cremation ground according to Sikh customs and the Bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib was performed at his home and thousands of Sikh devotees came to offer flowers of devotion to this warrior of Khalistan.
