Khalistan Liberation Force’s brave martyr, Bhai Baldev Singh Ji was born on 5th January 1948, from the blessed womb of Mata Gurmej Kaur and in the house of Sardar Banta Singh, in the village of Chheharta (Basti Arjan Nagar Bhatta) of Sri Amritsar. The details of the six siblings are as follows: Bhai Dilbagh Singh, Bhai Balkar Singh, Bibi Kuldeep Kaur, Bibi Surjit Kaur, Bhai Baldev Singh Baba (Martyr), Bhai Sukhdev Singh. Bhai Sahib’s father used to earn a living by doing labour. Due to extreme poverty in the house, Bhai Sahib could not study in school. Bhai Sahib was very cheerful and kind-hearted. As soon as he stepped into youth, Bhai Sahib started looking for a way to improve the economic condition of the family and started buying and selling cattle. Bhai Sahib worked hard and then the family’s livelihood started to run a little better.

 

At the age of 18 years, Bhai Sahib got married to Bibi Veer Kaur and six children were born to him: Resham Singh, Rajwinder Kaur, Davinder Kaur, Balwinder Kaur, Akwinder Kaur and Jagdish Singh. Until 1982, Bhai Sahib was living happily with his family. In those days, the Dharam Yudh Morcha was being held for the rights of the Sikhs and Punjab, and this movement of the Sikhs forced the Delhi government to bow down. When the Hindu rulers of Delhi had no other option but to accept the demands of the Sikhs, in the first week of June 1984, the Indian government unleashed its forces on the sacred religious shrine of the Sikhs, Sri Darbar Sahib and Sri Akaal Takht Sahib, including about forty historical Gurdwaras. The Indian government committed such a crime that it will forever remain a stigma on the forehead of this free and democratic country. 

 

Sometime after the attack on Sri Darbar Sahib, when Bhai Baldev Singh along with his family came to Sri Akaal Takht Sahib to receive Amrit from the Panj Pyare. Bhai Baldev Singh’s heart was torn apart seeing the fallen Sri Akaal Takht Sahib. Realising the deadly effects of slavery, Bhai Sahib burst into tears, he felt this pain and understood the murderous impact of Hindutva. Standing in front of the desecrated Sri Akaal Takht Sahib, Bhai Sahib told his wife, “Now I will not go home and I will teach a lesson to these Hindu rulers of Delhi, who have fired bullets at Guru Darbar and destroyed our Miri-Piri Takht with tanks and cannons. Now my religion is in danger, and today my Guru needs me, I will sacrifice my life to protect my religion.” Bibi Veer Kaur pleaded to her husband, “Come home with us.” and the young children also pleaded to their father, but Bhai Sahib said. “My children, the Guru will protect you.”

 

Seeing the fallen Sri Akaal Takht Sahib, Bhai Sahib’s muscles were twitching and his eyes were red with anger and his face was shining with enthusiasm. When Bhai Sahib went inside Sri Darbar Sahib to have Darshan, even the Sachkhand building had been hit by more than a thousand bullets, and there were signs of thousands of bullets in the Parikrama as well. Seeing all this, Bhai Sahib told the family, “The rulers of the country have made us realize the feeling of slavery and alienation, and now India has no relationship with us, and if we want to save Sikhi, we need to struggle for our own country.” Bhai Sahib put a Siropa around his neck and did Ardas, “Dhan Sri Guru Ram Das Sache Patshah Ji! Grant me such strength that I can take revenge on the enemies who have attacked your holy place and serve in the national struggle by sacrificing my body for the Sikh nation.”

 

Bibi Veer Kaur pleaded a lot to her husband to go back home with them, eventually Bhai Sahib did go back home but the vision of desecrated Sri Akaal Takht Sahib was revolving in his mind again and again, which was not letting him sit in peace. Bhai Sahib stayed at home with great difficulty for a few days and kept thinking about the next strategy. Bhai Sahib secretly left home and made a firm decision to serve in the Sikh struggle and never looked back. Near Sangana village, Bhai Sahib met Bhai Resham Singh Thande, a top general of the Khalistan Liberation Force, and expressed his desire to join the organisation. Bhai Resham Singh Thande recruited Bhai Sahib into the force and handed over weapons. Bhai Baldev Singh, along with Bhai Resham Singh Thande, Deputy Chief of Khalistan Liberation Force, took part in many big Jhujaru actions and performed heroic deeds, such as:

 

  • Bhai Sahib once attacked the CRP outposts and blew up the TV tower of Basarke Gillan with rocket launchers.

 

  • Bhai Sahib killed a police inspector on the bridge of Sangana village because this butcher officer used to torture the Singhs in a very brutal manner and also harassed the families of the Jhujaru Singhs. On the command of Bhai Resham Singh Thande, Bhai Baldev Singh shot this inspector with bullets in broad daylight.

 

  • Geja Singh, was a police informer of Sangana village who used to do CID of the Jhujaru Singhs. He was warned by Bhai Sahib many times but this informer did not stop and then Bhai Sahib also eliminated him. In the action, the police surrounded Bhai Sahib in Sangana village, but after a fierce battle, Bhai Sahib was able to escape. 

 

Bhai Baldev Singh did many other important social works for his area but never boasted that he had done this work. Bhai Resham Singh Thande used to express great happiness at the bravery and loyalty of Bhai Baldev Singh Baba. Despite being poor at home, Bhai Baldev Singh never took any money from the organisation to his home and to the extent that he never even visited home. Bhai Sahib left his family and considered the Khalistan movement and fellow Jhujaru brothers as his family. 

 

In October 1991, Bhai Resham Singh Thande sent Bhai Baldev Singh to Attari for some work of the organisation and there, on the information of an informer, the police of Khasa arrested him and took him to the VIA Staff and tortured his body inhumanly for about a month, but he did not give any secret of the organisation to the police and kept chanting, “Waheguru-Waheguru” and endured the torture. While in police custody, Bhai Sahib was made half-dead and later on 20th November 1991, the police took Bhai Sahib to village Kharmanian (district Amritsar) and martyred him in a false encounter and the police also cremated his body under their supervision and did not give any of his belongings to the family.
