Shaheed Bhai Amarjit Singh Takhanwadh

 

Bhai Amarjit Singh was born in 1967 in the house of Sardar Pritam Singh and from the blessed womb of Mata Balwant Kaur in village Takhanwadh, present-day Moga district. Bhai Sahib had two elder brothers, Bhai Ragbir Singh and Bhai Jasvir Singh. He studied up to tenth grade. At the age of twenty, Bhai Sahib received Amrit and obtained pure Santhiya of Gurbani and also performed Sri Akhand Paath Sahibs. After completing his studies, during his RMP course, Bhai Sahib opened a medical shop in village Lopo. Often the Jhujaru Singhs, who were injured while fighting with the police forces, would come to the shop for medical supplies. 

 

Bhai Amarjit Singh had only been married for fifteen days, when someone from the Lopo village informed the police that militants were coming to Bhai Sahib’s shop at night. In October 1992, the police of Mehana police station arrested Bhai Amarjit Singh from his house at 4 in the morning. Bhai Sahib was arrested and taken to the police station where he was tortured and then martyred in a false police encounter.
