Shaheed Bhai Amar Singh Mann was such a precious gem of the Sikh nation. Since becoming an adult, he continuously distributed love and affection to his friends as long as he lived. In the year 1962, in the village of Kishanpur in Ferozepur district, this young man was born in the family of Sardar Joginder Singh. His family was a very happy family and financially prosperous family. Bhai Amar Singh received his primary education from his village. His nature was also very hard working. Later, he attended Bhupendra Khalsa High School, Moga, where he passed with good marks in each of his classes. Here he reached TC in the field of sports. Apart from being a good player in Kabaddi and football, he was also selected for athletics by his college.

 

He used to have many locals come to watch him in the tournament of his native village Kishanpur. Other people near his village would bet on his name, that any raider who go to him, will get pinned down by him. During July 1985, an attempt was made to assassinate Darshan Bajwa, the in charge of Goraya police station after he had slapped the wife of Shaheed Bhai Harminder Singh Lala. Shaheed Bhai Amar Singh was with the Jhujaru team on that day also. Bhai Amar Singh’s nature was very amiable. Before the year 1983, he used to criticize the saints many times due to being under the influence of communism. But at the end of 1983, he suddenly went to Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar with college students and listened to the lectures of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale as if he had woken up from a deep sleep and only after that became a worshiper of Gurdwara.

 

After the bloody attack on Sri Harimandir Sahib in June 1984, he became even more resolute in the ideology he had heard in the speeches of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale. The first sign of protest from the students of Punjab was to boycott the annual exams in August 1984. Under the leadership of Bhai Amar Singh Mann and many other fellow Jhujaru Singhs and Singhnia, this protest was seen with such success that Guru Nanak Engineering College, became the only college in the entire Punjab, where not a single student attended their annual exams. All across Punjab, these annual exams were being conducted under the control of the Indian army. The Indian soldiers would forcefully take the students to village in their jeeps, but still no student would go inside and attend the exam. Even the temptation of the military officers to give complete freedom to copying and the authorities to pass every student who appeared in the exams could not sway them from their Sikh faith. Even threats of closing the college forever could not sway them away from this ideology.

 

Bhai Amar Singh Mann also had the honour of conducting Kirtan Darbar for the first time in memory of the martyrs of Sri Darbar Sahib at Guru Nanak Engineering College. This college was the only one in Punjab to celebrate this kind of event for the first time in memory of the martyrs of the battle of Amritsar, and it was Bhai Amar Singh Mann, who took the wife of Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh out of house arrest, Bibi Bimal Kaur Khalsa, and climbed on the stage of this college and laid the foundation for leading the Sikh Panth in the political field. The words of Bibi Bimal Kaur Khalsa are still remembered today, “Surely my stage and political life started from Guru Nanak Engineering College.” Which will always make the students of this college proud. This Kirtan Darbar was very successful.

 

When Indira was assassinated for the attack on Sachkhand Sri Harimandir Sahib on 31st October 1984, Bhai Amar Singh Mann along with his companions’ played drums and distributed Laddu on a large scale. In the same way Amar Singh Mann, while performing many other minor responsibilities for the Sikh panth, he joined the Jhujaru Singhs to fight against the Indian oppression in August 1987 and after this day he bid farewell to home forever. He started Jhujaru activities under the leadership of Bhai Gurjant Singh Budhsinghwala. During these days, he got brotherly support from Bhai Gurmeet Singh Meeta and Bhai Gurjit Singh Kaka, who had already joined the armed struggle for Khalistan.

 

Bhai Amar Singh Mann wrote a letter to one of his friends after a few days of hiding. Which had the lines, “I assure all my friends and relatives that I will not do anything that is dehumanizing. I will not even allow any bad thing to happen in front of my eyes.” This was a firm answer to the government’s TV, radio and other propaganda tools, in which they never get tired of calling such Jhujaru Singhs thieves, robbers, etc. Rather, the common man is forced to think that the Jhujaru Singhs are filled with the love of humanity. Why did they have to take up arms against the so-called peoples government?

 

He was working day and night to bring together different groups of Sikh youths on one platform. Every group had faith in him. So, this debt was borne by him and he almost achieved success in this mission. Bhai Amar Singh Mann was made a member of the ad hoc committee of the Sikh Students Federation after the martyrdom of Bhai Gurmeet Singh Meeta of village Poohli district Bathinda. While serving the Sikh struggle, Bhai Amar Singh Maan was martyred on 31st October 1988, in the Model Town area of Ludhiana by the Punjab police.
