Punjabiyat – An Over-Exaggerated Concept

A message to the Sikh nation from Shaheed Bhai Gurmukh Singh Nagoke, the Lt General of Khalistan Commando Force. Printed in the magazine, Wangar in 1991, Bhai Gurmukh Singh explains how the Indian government was over shadowing their atrocities upon the Sikh people by over-exaggerating the cultural concept.

There are those people who do not wish to recognise historical truth, nor support the sentiments of the Sikh nation, failing to understand the wider implications of slavery. In fact, even more so, those who deliberately want to tarnish and dilute the Sikh stance by proclaiming the term ‘Punjabiyat/ Punjabiness’.

This term of Punjabiyat, is merely a web and proxy created by Brahmanism. Not only have they been successful in weaving this term into the Punjabi community but there are also those who claim to fight for human rights and the protection of freedom, and have become consumed into this web. The higher this label of Punjabiyat is propagated, the more it is so far removed from the truth itself. As mentioned already, it is a means and proxy to divert people’s mindset away from the aim and vision of Khalistan – a free Sikh state.

If we look at our history, the people of Punjab never lived in any way, shape or form to represent the collective Punjabiyat. Rather, each and every community has existed independently in accordance to its own faith and protocols. It can be said that during the times of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s reign there was a glimpse a Punjabiyat collective was seen and associated. Surprisingly, this was not honoured by the likes of the Dogras and Hindus who hung the notion of Punjabiyat on the wall and were fake bystanders. Their aim was always to divide and destroy. In contrast, the Muslim Generals and soldiers were loyal to Maharaja Ranjit Singh until the very end.

In mass. the Sikhs were against the partition of 1947, knowing it would result in a geographically dismembered Punjab and divided. It was also the Sikhs who then suffered the greatest loss in deaths and destruction to property and displacement. Those so-called sympathisers (anti-Sikh elements/Right-wing supporters and Indian Govt) of the Sikhs used this opportunity to allow for what they expected, a natural decrease in Sikh Populous, by the effect of the partition where half the Sikhs would convert and become Muslims and the other half would easily become Hindu. The Hindus living in Punjab, were in actual fact the largest bearers of betrayal and threw away any ounce of loyalty into a pit of fire.

During the separation of Subhas/ Districts, a state-wide survey was rolled out, to determine the landscape of Punjab based upon Language majority. The Punjabi Hindus took the decision to forsake their Punjabi language and instead voted Hindi as their mother-tongue and first language. This further impacted the demographics of Punjab of what remained, post partition, that too now became even smaller. These Punjabi Hindus betrayed the land of Punjab, its waters, natural resources, its people and went against the greater good. Shamefully, they still show their hypocrisy by standing behind the banner of Punjabiyat claiming to be true believers.

To add further context and clarity, the current Lok Sabha elections saw a majority vote for Congress by the Punjabi Hindus. There is no doubt that this reflected their true belief and to a certain extent accomplice in the genocide and killings of thousands of innocent young Sikh men across Punjab, by supporting and electing such a party.

As it stands, where only Sikhs and Hindus now reside in Punjab, it’s only Sikhs who are protesting and calling out in the interest of Punjab as a whole. Why do the Hindu Punjabis not raise their voice on the issues that affect Punjab? This says a lot in itself. The reasons highlighted are self-explanatory, if one still wants to talk about and deem Punjabiyat as a valid concept then their intellect and intentions must really be questioned.

All that is left to say is:

Sharam Tumhe Magar Aati Nahi

The characteristic/virtue of feeling shameful does not follow you.
