Shaheed Dr Gurnam Singh Bhuttar's Last Letter To His Father

Ik Oankaar Sri Satgur Parsaad
To my respected father, Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh,

With the blessing of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj, who gave the ultimate sacrifice of his father, mother and four sons for the Sikh panth, I am in high spirits and I do ardas that you and the rest of the family are also in high spirits. Sometimes I am surprised to think what I was and what god has made me now. Just imagine how giving Guru Maharaj is, who put me where I am today from where I was before. Only Guru Maharaj knows that, but a useless man like me has been given a chance to wet my hands and feet in the sarovar of panthic sewa.

I found out that SSP of Batala came to our village and asked you what happened to me? Dear father, what could happen to me, the attacks on the Sikhs and the genocide of all the Sikhs in Delhi, the killing of thousands of innocent Sikh youths and children got to me. Dear father, I met and shared views with Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale, Bhai Amrik Singh (President of All India Sikh Student Federation) and many more singhs. After that I also have been attached to the Sikh struggle continuously in some from. Many of my fellow singhs attained shaheedi in front of me, and then the little bit that was left was fulfilled when the police arrested me and badly tortured me. When the police was hitting the palms of my feet with their sticks, I realised the shaheed singhs were looking upon me and this was the right path for me to take. The spilt blood of all the innocent Sikhs didn't let me rest. In fact it encouraged me more to move forward every moment.

Dear father, I am so proud of you. After Guru Maharaj I pray to you. I cannot give you all the worldly happiness but if you try to find my happiness spiritually, you might find it. Have I done something for you not to feel proud of me? You and the rest of the family also have a responsibility to encourage me to move forward on the path which I have chosen to walk on. You should not do anything which would stop me on this path, just do Ardas for me that I continue to do sewa for the Sikh panth in full Sikhi saroop.

One more thing the government of India might try to harass you in many ways but don't give up, take it as blessings of Guru Maharaj and stay in high spirits. You head should not bow down in front of any act of the police harassment. Battles of freedom are not won easily you know that more than me.

Dear father this is only ardas I do in front of Guru Maharaj, may I have to give my head for the panth, then my family should encourage me to do so. I want to dedicate my next lives into the sewa of Guru Maharaj and his great panth.

I say my final Gurfateh to you, mother, and all members of my family and also the rest of our relatives.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Your son, Guru Panth's servant
