Shaheed Bhai Darshan Singh Surewala - Babbar Khalsa

The Shaheedi given in the first stages of the Khalistani armed struggle has made the foundation of this movement very strong. On the higher ground of Mukhatsar is a village by the name of Surewala. A young and brave Sikh of this village, Bhai Darshan Singh attained Shaheed in the first stages of the Sikh Freedom Movement and wrote his name amongst other Shaheeds of the Sikh Panth.

Bhai Darshan Singh was born in the year of 1974, in the house of Sardar Nar Singh and from the womb of Mata Kartar Kaur in the village of Surewala, District Mukhatsar. After passing 10th class from the local school, Bhai Sahib started working on his family farms. For a short while Bhai Sahib also worked in a spraying company in Jaito, but Akaal Purakh had very important Panthic Sewa lined up for Bhai Sahib. Jhujaru Singhs who do sewa for the Panth are not attached to materialistic things of this world. Singhs Singhnia who have love for the Panth await a chance when they can fight and attain Shaheedi. Just like stars that are visible only at night, the Jhujaru Singhs are also visible when it's time to fight, not in time of peace.

It was during the early stage of the Khalistan armed struggle Bhai Sahib left his home and joined the freedom fighting group of Babbar Khalsa. Before joining the Babbar Khalsa, Bhai Sahib had already been an active member of the All Indian Sikh Student Federation.

Bhai Sahib had been active in the Sikh Freedom Movement for some while when all of a sudden Bhai Sahib was arrested in 1992 as he travelled on a 3-wheeler. After being arrested Bhai Sahib was bought to Mehna Village Police Station which comes between Moga and Ludhiana. Here Bhai Sahib was brutally tortured for many days but the police got no information out from Bhai Sahib nor any potential arrests. In the end when Bhai Sahib had no life left in him, the newspapers of July 1992 reported Bhai Sahib attained Shaheedi in an encounter. It is not clear if Bhai Sahib was killed in an encounter or during the blind torture nor is it clear that if Bhai Sahib's Shaheedi saroop was cremated or if it was just thrown into a river.
